Playback Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam died ate age of 74

Renowned playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam has died at a private hospital in Chennai on Friday at age of 74 years. He spread the magic of his voice in many films including Bollywood.

Balasubramanian was born on 4 June 1946 in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. On December 15, 1966, he made his debut as a playback singer with the Telugu film Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna. He has sung nearly 40,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam in a 50-year singing career.

  • SP got international recognition from the 1980 film Sankarabharanam. He received his first National Award for singing in this film.
  • In 1969, Bala got a chance to record his first Tamil song Airakai Ennum Ilaya Kanni. Tamil superstar Gemini Ganesan was seen in this film.
  • For almost a decade, he sang more than one song from Salman. He received the Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for the song Dil Deewana of Maine Pyar Kiya.

At the same time, the song Didi Tera Dewar Deewana sung with Lata Mangeshkar in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun is still on the tongue of the audience. Just as Kishore Kumar was once considered the voice of Rajesh Khanna, similarly Bala earned a lot of fame in Bollywood by becoming Salman’s voice.
