Chilnese vaccine ‘Sinopharm’ gets WHO approval for experiment

The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the emergency use of the Covid vaccine prepared by China owned company Sinopharm. This vaccine is the 1st vaccine developed by an non-Western country which has been supported by WHO. Till now, this vaccine has been applied to millions of people in many places other than China. The WHO had previously approved the vaccine formulated by Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna.

However, health regulators in the Western countries of Africa, Latin America and Asia allowed this Chinese vaccine to be used for emergency. Very little data on Chinese vaccines was released internally. For this reason, the efficacy of this vaccine was under question. But the WHO said on Friday that it has recognized the safety, efficacy and quality of the Sinopharm vaccine.

WHO decision on Sinovac and Sputnik V Vaccine

The WHO said the vaccine could be rapidly sent to countries seeking vaccines to protect their people and health care workers. It has been reported that two doses of this vaccine should be applied to people 18 years or above. In addition, evaluation is still underway for another Chinese vaccine, Sinovac and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine. It is believed that soon the WHO can give a decision on this as well.

What does it mean to support WHO?

The approval of the vaccine from the World Health Loan means that the regulators of life have now got the guideline that the vaccine is safe and effective. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it would give countries confidence to expedite the approval of the vaccine by their own regulators. This decision of the health body means that this vaccine can now also be used for the global Kovacs program, which has been formed to provide vaccines to poor countries.

The decision to list the Chinese vaccine for emergency use is expected to give a big boost to the Kovacs program, which is grappling with supply problems. Sinopharm was being used extensively before WHO approval. According to media reports, about 6.5 crore doses have been applied to the people. Apart from China, the vaccine is being used in the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and Bush.
